Program Notes

These short movements for a mixed quintet started off as an idea to write 1-minute movements to fit in the time parameters for video content on Social platforms like Instagram. Each movement is unique and explores a different character and soundscape in less than a minute. 

The short format of these movements were meant for me to keep composing regularly while balancing my schedule as full-time music educator, but unfortunately when taking into consideration the writing, booking players, and recording time necessary for each piece, even these proved too difficult to keep up with for very long. 

This Quintet and Quartet for Brass are all that exist in this style, and I would not return to this short form concept until the Quarantine of 2020 when I adapted it into an electronic medium called “Mini-Tracks.”  

This Quintet is full of fun melodic, rhythmic, and contrapuntal energy that would fit perfectly as an opening piece for your recital or concert. I hope you have fun with this piece!
